FDC designs and develops training courses that answer to the specific requests of the beneficiary (i.e.: during periodic or permanent improving programs for their own employees, for institutions, or improving the skills of the target group, for other NGOs).
On request, FDC involves for designing and developing these training courses, foreign conflict resolution specialists from Europe, North America (USA and Canada), also from the SEE region.
FDC’s training courses are all designed such as to respect the Romanian Occupational Standards (COSA) and the requirements of the National Council for Adult Education (CNFPA) under the coordination of the Romanian Ministry of Labour
.

FDC’s VISION FOR CONFLICT RESOLUTION DEVELOPMENT IN ROMANIA
Foundation for Democratic Change is dedicated to promote mediation and development of a culturally specific model of conflict resolution in Romania, thus contributing to the consensus building process on controversial aspects through the use of third neutral party consultations.

Foundation for Democratic Change is committed to promoting the field of conflict resolution in Romania by designing, developing and delivering conflict resolution trainings as well as through other activities that raise the profile of conflict resolution in Romania.


WHY ARE THESE COURSES USEFUL
A graduate of the Certificate Mediation Program will be able to:
· Analyze conflicts- the factors, the process and the potential for resolution
· Communicate effectively and facilitate constructive dialogue
· Design and apply appropriate consensus-building processes, including mediation
· Become a member of the Romanian Mediator’s Network and benefit out of the exchange of experience and know-how that exists between the members of the Network.

WHO COULD PARTICIPATE?
The training programs developed and delivered by FDC are addressed to individuals interested in using conflict resolution techniques in the social environment they live, in their professional or personal lives. Additional advanced courses are designed to cover requirements necessary for potential employment as mediators.
From the training programs could benefit corporations, organizations, public institutions, also individuals.
It is recommended that the trainees have experience in working with people, developed communication skills and willingness to subsequently apply the knowledge and skills accomplished through these trainings.

I. CERTIFICATE MEDIATION PROGRAM

Foundation for Democratic Change offers the Certificate Mediation Program. There are three levels of the Program and a Practical Unit. For Levels I and Level III and for the Practical Unit all courses are mandatory. At Level II there is one mandatory course and the student has to choose at least one more course from the list of optional courses.

The student will have to put into practice the knowledge gained during the previous trainings and show his/her abilities in simulated conflict situations.

The final paper will be conducted by the student and coordinated by a FDC trainer in order to prepare for the final exam to receive the Competence Certificate from CNFPA (National Council for Adult Education, Romanian Ministry of Labour).

An Attendance Certificate will be granted to the participants after each training module to include information about the training unit and skills developed.

A Competence Certificate will be granted to those students completing all the requirements of the Certificate Mediation Program. According to the law, the Graduate Certificate in Mediation gives him / her right to start working as mediator.

All training courses are interactive, based on role-plays and case studies.
The Level I courses have as main objective the assimilation of necessary skills to intervene as a third neutral party in conflict situations.
The Level II courses aim to complete the knowledge on intervention in conflict situation and improve the necessary abilities to work as a third – neutral.
The Level III courses aim to deeper students’ knowledge and skills as future mediators.

The courses at the same level could be taken one by one or in the FDC proposed order.
To obtain the Competence Certificate, the courses must be all attended in a period no longer than 2 years.

Ethical codes, legal framework and requirements, closing agreements, relations with other specialists: lawyers, psychologists, trainers, public administration, etc.

System Design in Conflict Resolution
Approaching complex conflicts, identification of parties involved in “conflicts in chaos”, developing approaching strategies of conflict situations, system design of intra-institutional conflict resolution or in relationship with a system (example: health, education, local administration, multiethnic communities etc), tools for intervention.

Overcoming Barriers in Communication

Communications’ role in conflict, communications barriers, ways of intervention and overcome the barriers.

MS4
Facilitation
When is facilitation necessary/ appropriate, practical drafts of facilitation, facilitation stages and objectives, types of facilitation, preparing and developing the facilitation process.
MS5
Conflict Prevention
Conflict dynamics, stages of intervention, violence as conflict manifestation form, favourable elements for conflict escalation and/ or preventing violence.
MS6
Peacebuilding
Concept presentation, relationship between peacebuilding concept and other ways of intervention in conflict resolution, transition societies and peacebuilding process, differences between peacemaking, peacekeeping and peacebuilding processes.
MS7
Mediation in cases of discrimination
Legal framework against discrimination, potential role of the third-neutral, sensitivities.


The specialization training courses are organized in cooperation with international partners, specially designed to meet the goals of those requesting the courses, due to their complexity and novelty level. After each course the participants will receive an Attendance Certificate attesting their participation in that course. The duration of the specialization courses depends on the requirements of the beneficiaries.
Pre-requisites: Candidates for the Specialization Courses should have graduated at least Level I of the Certificate Mediation Program or an equivalent.


III. TAILORED TRAINING PROGRAMS TO ADDRESS SPECIFIC NEEDS

Foundation for Democratic Change designs and delivers customized training programs to corporations, institutions and organizations upon request.
Regarding this, FDC offered training programs on the prevention of inter-ethnic conflicts, specially designed for Rroma NGOs leaders as well as training programs specially designed for mass-media and NGOs representatives interested in increasing public participation in environmental decision-making.


The courses offered by FDC are in Romanian and upon request could be delivered in English.
